VENUES...

Nourish , 1727 Massachusetts Avenue Lexington, MA (781) 674-2400. The varied dishes at Nourish -- locally grown and sourced -- offers a varied menu with the the best of both worlds: "a healthier, balanced plate has a reasonable protein portion along with generous amounts of vegetables and grains" or "some ribs or a yummy dessert." Nourish is roomy, with a nice bar, desserts, and live music three nights a week, plus a week night open mike hosted by Ellen Schmidt of Two for the Show..

The Java Room --espresso, music, wine bar, 14 Littleton Road, Gingerale Plaza, Chelmsford, MA. Owner Candy has made this coffee bar a great venue for live original music and jazz. The Java Room has sandwiches, desserts and drinks of all kinds. Plenty of parking.

Blue on Highland, 882 Highland Ave., Needham, MA. A fine, large dining room serving well-cooked, delicious food -- and a friendly bar side with live music several days a week.

Waxy O'Connor's Irish Pub and Restaurant, 94 Hartwell Ave., Lexington, MA. Waxy's has locations in Florida, Texas, Massachusetts (including Foxboro) and New Hampshire. The Lexington location is at 94 Hartwell Avenue in the former Hartwell House. The refurbished building is huge and -- being green -- is hard to miss. Great beer selection and live music.

The Mad Raven, Main Street, Waltham, MA. The most comfortable pub this side of The Burren, with delicious food and music three nights a week. That's Main Street, not Moody -- avoid the crowds!

The Harvest Cafe, 40 Washington St., Hudson, MA. Owner Karen has a changing menu of delicious and seasonal food. Harvest Cafe is Hudson's leading sponsor of live music, usually three to four nights a week.

BANDS...

True West Modern Country Dance Band. Modern country featuring vocalist Laura Pratt.

Drivin' Blind.Openers for the likes of Savoy Brown and Sonny Landreth, DB is fronted by Steve Dineen on lead guitar and vocals. Finalists in the 2010 Boston Blues Society battle of the bands. Always a great show!

Craig LaGrassa. Craig is an easy-going singer-songwriter who also has a seemingly endless repertoire of cover tunes that he performs in his own style. A great solo performer, Craig is also in the band Third High.

Silverlock. This duo -- Deb and Susanna -- knocked us out with their covers early girl-group pop songs that deserve to be better known. Guitar, keyboard and vocal harmony. Catch them at AbFab in Melrose some night!

Outrageous Fortune. An outstanding 1930's style folk and jug trio, just guitar, harmonica, jug, and vocals.

Profile -- a classic oldies band with a true Sixties garage vibe.

Throwdown Blues Band Finalists in the 2010 Boston Blues Society battle of the bands. Power vocals, lightning guitar, stellar drums, and tasteful harp. BTTW, most definitely!

Eilen Jewell. Whether with her superb backing band or side projects like the Sacred Shakers, Eilen Jewell performs with a great r 'n' b and gospel style.

Girl Howdy! Hot rockabilly, classic honky tonk, country swing, and cuckoo to boot.

Tom Yates and Friends. Tom plays guitar with different groups of friends, notably singer Lisa Marie, at the Colonial Inn in Concord. A hot player, yes -- but the song always comes first!

Pueblo Nuevo Band. We were glad to see this Worcester-area band live at Bolton Fair in 2010. Wonderful musicians and beautiful latin music.

Dennis McCarthy. Dennis is a solo pub player (and band musician) who does recent tunes as well as classics. A real pro, not too loud, and a great voice.

Acoustic Underground. Two acoustic guitarists and a drummer, these guys are a lot of fun, high energy -- and cover Train, Boston, and ACDC without lowering the key!

The Mojoleros. A Falmouth-based ensemble -- at its core are Jonathan Larkin on button accordion and vocals and Amy Larkin on fiddle playing Cajun, Zydeco, and Latin Dance. Years ago, Derm gigged with these guys under the name Buzzard's Bayou.

Ashmont Station. Ginny and Dean Johnson's modern country band play all over New England as well as in national competitions. Great vocals and a tremendous mix of old and new country.

Kden Selcer. Besides hosting the opoen mike at Concord's Colonial Inn, Ken plays the most fluid, versatile acouystic guitar on the area, whether performing solo or assisting his many singer-songwriter friends.

Chris Nauman. Chris writes and performs his own songs and can be heard throughout Metrowest.
